Dubai Basketball Climbs to 3-1 After Dominant 87-74 Win in Serbia
Dubaiโs Team-First Mentality Held Strong as Borac Mozzartโs Awesome Energy & Deafening Crowd Noise Elevated the Atmosphere of ABA League Round 4
In another defining matchup, Dubai Basketball rose to the occasion again in Europeโs ABA League following a dominant 87-74 victory against Serbiaโs Borac Mozzart on Sunday night, marked by a powerful defensive performance that held Borac Mozzartโs captain, Marko Joลกilo, to only 6 points across 34 minutes of play.
Dubai Basketball went into the Round 4 game in ฤaฤak looking to bounce back from last weekโs last-gasp defeat against Mega MIS โ and they responded with an impressive performance to take their record to 3-1. Danilo Anฤuลกiฤ set the pace all night long for Dubai, with 16 points, while Ahmet Dรผverioฤlu had a game-hig 7 rebounds. With Borac Mozzart focusing heavily on Dubaiโs captain, Klemen Prepeliฤ, they had no answer for Isaiah Taylor, whose 13 points, 3 rebounds & 6 assists were an absolute game breaker โ handing Borac Mozzartโs first home loss of the season.
By the end of the first quarter, Dubai held a narrow lead of 24-23. The hosts levelled the scores early in the second, but Head Coach Jurica Golemacโs side took it up a gear with captain Klemen Prepeliฤ dropping a clutch 3-pointer when his team needed him most.
Nate Mason, who missed the last game due to an injury, added another two, but some strong play from the home side saw Borac Mozzart take a 33-29 lead. Dubaiโs Awudu Abass and Danilo Anฤuลกiฤ then stepped up with crucial points including a three-pointer to turn the momentum and give their team a healthy 47-36 advantage at half-time.
By the end of the third quarter, Dubai had stretched their lead to 71-63, and in the last 10 minutes they held off Borac Mozzart, and moved further ahead, to close out for a key 87-74 win on the road. But it was the home fans that really gave the game a whole new meaning, as the roar of the capacity crowd made ฤaฤak Sports Hall feel like the Colosseum.
Dubaiโs Jacorey Williams commented post-game, โIt was loud, the fans here are great and theyโre passionate; they let us know all night that there would be no easy points. It was great to leave with a big team win, but shout out to the fans, ฤaฤak Sports Hall is one of the toughest places to play.โ
Dubai Basketballโs next game will be on Sunday 20th October when they take on Spartak Subotica at Coca-Cola Arena, with tip-off at 7:00pm. With Spartakโs, Bolton Rasir, leading the league in points per game and currently seated third in the MVP race, another epic matchup is guaranteed.
