Dubai Prevails After Overtime Battle Against Olympiacos at Coca-Cola Arena
Dubai Basketball kept its EuroLeague play-in ambitions alive with one of its most demanding performances of the season, defeating Olympiacos Piraeus 108โ98 after overtime in Round 26 at the Coca-Cola Arena. The result marked Dubaiโs first overtime game in the competition and reinforced the teamโs status as one of the most difficult opponents to face on home court.
From the opening tip, Dubai controlled the tempo and scoreboard. An aggressive start set the tone, with early defensive pressure translating into transition points and a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter. Aleksa Avramoviฤ was central to that opening stretch, scoring efficiently while also disrupting Olympiacosโ ball movement. Dubai closed the first 10 minutes ahead 26โ17 and carried that momentum into the second quarter.
The hosts continued to dictate terms before halftime. Ball pressure and active hands forced Olympiacos into turnovers, which Dubai consistently converted into points. At the break, the home side led 52โ40, having limited Olympiacosโ offensive rhythm and kept control of the game flow.
Olympiacos responded after the interval, increasing defensive intensity and finding more consistency from the perimeter. A sustained run in the third quarter reduced Dubaiโs advantage and shifted the game into a more physical, possession-by-possession battle. Despite that push, Dubai entered the final quarter still in front, having absorbed the visitorsโ momentum without relinquishing the lead.
The closing minutes of regulation were tense. Dubai appeared on course to secure the win inside 40 minutes after Mfiondu Kabengele converted from the free-throw line in the final seconds. However, Evan Fournier connected on a long three-pointer with half a second remaining, forcing overtime and briefly swinging the emotional balance toward the visitors.
Any doubts about Dubaiโs response were quickly erased in the extra period. Olympiacos opened overtime with a three-pointer, but that proved to be their final basket of the game. Dubai raised its defensive level, closed driving lanes, and controlled the defensive glass, while the offense executed with clarity and patience. A decisive 13โ0 run settled the outcome, removing any late uncertainty and sealing a convincing overtime victory.
Kabengele was a defining presence throughout the game and especially in overtime. He finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds, recording a double-double that reflected his impact on both ends of the floor. Dwayne Bacon matched him with 21 points and added seven rebounds, providing consistent scoring across all four quarters. McKinley Wright contributed 18 points and seven assists, playing a key role in organizing the offense during critical stretches.
Avramoviฤ delivered one of his most complete performances of the season, finishing with 17 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. His defensive work in the first half was particularly important in setting the tone for Dubaiโs overall approach. Filip Petruลกev and Dลพanan Musa each added 10 points, while Bruno Caboclo made his EuroLeague debut for Dubai, scoring six points in 10 minutes.
Olympiacos received solid contributions from Tyler Dorsey, who led his team with 18 points, and Fournier, who finished with 16. Nikola Milutinov added 13 points, while Sasha Vezenkov, limited offensively in the first half, ended with 12. Despite their late comeback, the visitors were unable to match Dubaiโs execution and defensive discipline in overtime.
With this win, Dubai claimed another high-profile home result in its inaugural EuroLeague season, responding strongly after a narrow loss in the previous round. The performance underlined the teamโs consistency at the Coca-Cola Arena and kept it firmly in contention as the regular season moves toward its decisive phase.
