Dubai, 21 August 2025: Reigning ABA League MVP and league finalist, McKinley Wright IV joins the Dubai Basketball squad for his pre-season training on Wednesday evening. The 26-year-old American was Dubai Basketballโ€™s second addition to the 2025/26 roster ahead of their EuroLeague debut.

โ€œFeels great, man. Iโ€™m excited for this opportunity. Iโ€™m excited to be here to meet some of the guys [teammates] that are here so far. Iโ€™m excited for my family to be able to come out here and enjoy this experience and the opportunity for myself. Iโ€™m looking forward to it,โ€ Wright said after arriving in Dubai.

As Dubai Basketball counts down to their EuroLeague debut, Wright emphasised his goals in also returning to the ABA League; where he was awarded the 2024/25 season MVP โ€œObviously I want to go win the ABA League championship and qualify for the EuroLeague playoffs in the first year. So those are big goals, big team-orientated goals. And for myself personally, just try to stay afloat and continue to be me and be successful and do what I do.โ€

Wright, who played in Dubai last season as a visitor, said the city was also a major factor in his decision, โ€œThe facilities, the atmosphere when we played here; it was beautiful. The scenery outside, and I thought about my family too and things theyโ€™ll be able to do outside of basketball in the city. I have a lot of opportunities to get out and enjoy myself and have fun. I think thatโ€™s big for me and for my kids to be able to do something besides come to the gym and watch me play basketball. All of that came into play, and it was the perfect decision for me.โ€

Known for his intensity and leadership, Wright promised to bring the same qualities to Dubai, โ€œJust try to come in and be me. Donโ€™t take a step back. Just try to keep building off the joy and the success that I had last year. I bring a lot of energy every night, be a vocal leader, and I promise to bring a lot of wins here.โ€

EuroLeague hosts their season opener in Dubai on 30 September against Partizan at Coca-Cola Arena, with Wright eager to step onto the court. โ€œIโ€™m sure thereโ€™ll be ups and downs just like there are every season. Iโ€™m battle-tested. So itโ€™s nothing that I canโ€™t do. Iโ€™m excited for this opportunity, and I know that I can play at this level. So, Iโ€™m looking forward to it. I canโ€™t wait till September 30th.โ€

Season tickets to witness every game of the biggest basketball season in the country will be live on 25 August at 9 AM. Fans can find all the information and secure their season tickets on the Dubai Basketball website.
